Manchester United 1-2 Leeds United: Okafor double secures historic win

Noah Okafor scored twice as Leeds United recorded their first league victory at Old Trafford since 1981 to boost their Premier League survival hopes.
Okafor opened the scoring after just five minutes, pouncing on Jayden Bogle’s cross to sweep the ball past Senne Lammens. He doubled the lead before the half-hour mark with a clinical 20-yard volley that took a significant deflection off Leny Yoro.
Manchester United’s task became even harder in the second half when Lisandro Martinez was shown a straight red card following a VAR review for pulling the hair of Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Despite being down to 10 men, the hosts rallied and halved the deficit when Casemiro headed home from a Bruno Fernandes cross in the 69th minute. Leeds withstood heavy late pressure, including a goal-line clearance by Calvert-Lewin to deny Casemiro a second, to secure a landmark three points.
The result moves Daniel Farke’s side six points clear of the relegation zone, while Michael Carrick’s Manchester United remain third in the table.
Red card complicates Carrick’s comeback bid
For Manchester United, this was a night of frustration and missed opportunities. Michael Carrick, presiding over only his second defeat as head coach, watched his side struggle to find their rhythm after a 24-day break from action. The absence of the suspended Harry Maguire and injured Kobbie Mainoo was felt, and while Manuel Ugarte impressed on his first start, the defensive lapse for the opening goal set a nervous tone.
The dismissal of Martinez early in the second half was the turning point. Already on a yellow card, the Argentine’s momentary lapse in judgment—adjudged as violent conduct by the VAR—left his team with a mountain to climb. Though Casemiro’s header sparked hope and Fernandes continued to pull the strings, the numerical disadvantage eventually proved too much against a resolute Leeds defense.
Farke’s Leeds find their spark
Leeds arrived at Old Trafford having failed to score in their previous four league outings, but they played with the urgency of a team fighting for their lives.
Okafor was the standout, showing the clinical edge that has often been missing from Leeds’ play this season. His first goal was a masterclass in positioning, while his second—though fortunate with the deflection—was a just reward for his industry.Behind him, the backline led by Pascal Struijk and reinforced by the tireless Ethan Ampadu limited United to speculative efforts for long periods. Even when the pressure mounted in seven minutes of stoppage time, Leeds remained composed to claim a win that could define their season.
