Bruno Fernandes produced a masterclass in history-making creativity as Manchester United dismantled Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 at the American Express Stadium on the final day of the Premier League season.

The Portuguese midfielder took centre stage in Michael Carrick’s first match since being appointed permanent manager, setting a new Premier League record with his 21st assist of the campaign before scoring himself to compound Brighton’s disappointment. United doubled their advantage just before the interval through a beautifully constructed team move. Amad Diallo showed immense vision to thread a precise, slide-rule pass into the path of Bryan Mbeumo, who calmly slotted a left-footed finish home to leave the home fans stunned.
Any hopes of a dramatic Brighton fightback were completely extinguished just two minutes into the second half. The irrepressible Dorgu turned provider, sliding a clever ball through to Fernandes, who capably beat Verbruggen to make it 3-0 and cap a dazzling individual display. Dorgu thought he had added a fourth moments later, but a VAR intervention spared Brighton further misery on a day when United’s superior firepower told the entire story.
While third-placed Manchester United could celebrate a stylish curtain-call to their domestic campaign under Carrick, Brighton were left looking for favours elsewhere, left to reflect on what might have been as their Europa League dreams slipped away..
