Morata: Leaving Atletico Madrid was the biggest mistake of my career

Alvaro Morata has admitted leaving Atletico Madrid is the biggest regret of his career, confessing he would trade his entire trophy cabinet to win just one title with the Spanish club.
The 33-year-old striker, who is currently under contract at AC Milan, spent last season on loan at Como, where he managed just one goal and two assists in 30 appearances.
But it is his departure from the Metropolitano Stadium that still stings for the Spain international.
”My decision to leave Atletico Madrid was the biggest mistake of my career,” Morata told The Touchline. “I would trade all the titles I’ve won for just one with Atletico – just one. Atletico is a club I love. I was very happy there.”
Morata enjoyed two distinct spells in Atletico’s red and white shirt, initially during the 2019-20 season and later between 2022 and 2024. He scored 58 goals and provided 14 assists across 154 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side.
However, the relentless spotlight and media scrutiny in his homeland ultimately forced the forward to look for a move abroad.
