Official: Ansu Fati joins Monaco from Barcelona Permanently
FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with AS Monaco for the permanent transfer of forward Ansu Fati.
The move brings an end to the 23-year-old’s career with the Catalan giants, where he made 123 official appearances and scored 29 goals. Barcelona have confirmed they will retain a percentage of any future sale.
In a statement, the La Liga club expressed their “thanks and appreciation” to Fati, adding that they “value his commitment and contributions” and wish him success in Ligue 1.
Born in Guinea-Bissau, Fati moved to Spain as a child and joined Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy from Sevilla in 2012.
His breakthrough into the senior squad was historic. After making his first-team debut in August 2019 aged just 16, he became one of the youngest goalscorers in both Barcelona’s and La Liga’s history.
The Spain international also made history in the UEFA Champions League, becoming the competition’s youngest ever goalscorer with a strike against Inter Milan in December 2019.
Despite that early, record-breaking promise, the forward now heads to Monaco to begin the next chapter of his career.
