Quite a bit of surprising news came out of Säbener Straße today when Bayern Munich announced that they had extended the contract of coach Vincent Kompany by two years. The Belgian is now tied to the club until 2029.
Kompany thus became the first coach in over a decade to get a contract extension from Bayern, excluding Hansi Flick’s promotion from interim to official coach in 2020. Although he has only been with the team for just over a year, Kompany has firmly put his stamp on the team and is said to be immensely popular within the club. He is the first coach since Flick to have been said to “understand” the club and its components.
