It probably should have been considered more of an ominous sign when Dayot Upamecano called off talks with Bayern Munich during the summer.
At the time, it just seemed like Upamecano wanted a chance to take a break from the grind of contract negotiations and wanted to put his focus on preparing for what was definitely going to be a grueling 2025/26 campaign.
That little hiatus, though, seemed to open the door for other clubs — or at least give them hope that they could convince the French defender to join them.
