Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed his frustration with the officials after his team’s 2-1 loss to Manchester City at Anfield. Slot was particularly disappointed with the decision not to send off Marc Guehi for pulling back Mohamed Salah, who was through on goal.
“Anyone who has been to this stadium in the last seven or eight years knows if Mo is in that position, it is a goal,” Slot said. “
Once again, the referee decides not in our favour. They have to do their job”.The match saw Dominik Szoboszlai score a stunning free-kick for Liverpool, but Manchester City came back to win it with goals from Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland. Slot also criticized the decision to send off Szoboszlai for denying a goalscoring opportunity, saying it was a harsh call.
Slot believes Liverpool are an improved side from a few months ago, despite their poor run of results in the league. “We can talk about every incident and everyone has an opinion about this,” Slot said. “That’s the difficulty in football, there are never 100 to nil decisions”
The decision not to send off Guehi has sparked debate, with some experts agreeing with the referee’s call. Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett said it was a yellow card decision, as there was a covering defender.
