Another pundit slams Bayern Munich’s Karl-Heinz Rummenigge for Nick Woltemade comments

We can add Jamie Carragher to the list of people unhappy with Bayern Munich supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge after his explosive comments calling Newcastle United “idiots” for paying that much for former VfB Stuttgart attacker Nick Woltemade.

“I really like (Woltemade), and I actually saw that quote a few days ago and it angered me and I am not a Newcastle United supporter,” Carragher said during an appearance on Sky Sports (as captured by the Daily Mail). “I think it’s a joke really, coming from someone who is part of a football club, in terms of Bayern Munich, a really respected football club. He shouldn’t be speaking about, especially, another German player like that so disrespectfully. That would have been all over the news in Germany, and his family and friends are there.

“That’s our job, we are pundits, not somebody associated with such a fantastic club. That is really disrespectful, and when I saw that, I thought ‘Do you know what? I really hope that lad shoves those words down his mouth.’ And at the start of his Premier League career, it looks like he is going to.”

The part of the story that keeps getting swept under the rug is that Woltemade wanted to move to Bayern Munich, but VfB Stuttgart refused to sell him to the Bavarians even for a price that was considered to be above market value. That frustrated Woltemade, strained his relationship with Stuttgart, and eventually led to Newcastle United swooping in.

The whole situation has left a bad taste in the mouth of Bayern Munich, something which Rummenigge had no probably detailing to the media.

Bayern Munich coasted into this international break with a 3-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt and immediately (and rightfully) hit Oktoberfest before the squad breaks up for a week-and-a-half for another international break.

It feels like a good time to appreciate these good times and examine why it all has come together under Vincent Kompany so far this season. This is what we have on tap for this episode of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show:
