Carlisle: Former captain Paul Huntington retires from football

Former Carlisle United and Preston North End defender Paul Huntington has announced his retirement from football aged 38.

Huntington began his career in the Premier League with Newcastle United in 2006 before a move to Leeds United.

After spells at Stockport County and Yeovil Town, he established himself at Preston where he spent 10 seasons.

Huntington made over 300 appearances for the Deepdale club and helped them win promotion to the Championship.

He then had two years at hometown club Carlisle, where he captained the side to victory in the League Two play-off final at Wembley over Stockport County in 2023.
