It’s international week in women’s football! Bayern Munich is off but Germany is on, and it is a slate of matches to savor: the two legs of the UEFA Women’s Nations League Final, to be played against Spain.
Spain smacked down Sweden 5-0 on aggregate, including a 4-0 opening salvo in the first leg back in October, to get here. Germany was made to work harder to get here — prevailing 1-0 in the opening semifinals leg against France and then hanging on for 2-2 draw in the second to advance to the Final.
The Spanish won the last World Cup and finished second to England at the EUROs this summer, so they are something of a team to beat. Can Germany pass the test? It was a fierce battle…
