Real Madrid star tested in new role in training match

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso tested Ferland Mendy in a new position during a training match thsi weekend.

That’s according to Marca, who have confirmed that the Frenchman was tried in a central role.

Mendy is for his part yet to take to the pitch this season, following a long-term spell on the sidelines through injury.

Now recovered, though, his path to regular minutes looks blocked, by the presence of both Álvaro Carreras, and Fran García.

Could the 30-year-old therefore have a better shot at game time as a centre-back?
