Hull City defender Semi Ajayi missed from the spot as Nigeria lost a penalty shootout to DR Congo to exit the World Cup qualifiers.
The game to decide who would go through to a final intercontinental qualifier next March, finished 1-1 after extra time in neutral Rabat.
With the shootout going to sudden death, Ajayi stepped up to take Nigeria’s sixth penalty and saw his effort saved by goalkeeper Timothy Fayulu who had been brought on specially for the spot-kicks.
It means Nigeria will miss the World Cup finals for the second successive competition.
