Pisa 0-3 Napoli: McTominay and Hojlund Seal Champions League Spot

Napoli comfortably secured their place in next season’s Champions League with a commanding 3-0 victory over relegated Pisa at the Arena Garibaldi. Antonio Conte’s men bounced back from last week’s slip-up against Bologna to dominate from start to finish, combining suffocating possession with a resolute defensive display to ensure a clean sheet and all three points.

The Partenopei suffocated the hosts with an astonishing 76% possession in the opening stages, and the relentless pressure paid dividends in the 21st minute. Rasmus Hojlund turned provider, laying the ball off to Scott McTominay, who fired a precision “snooker shot” from the edge of the area that clipped the inside of the far post and rolled in. It was the Scottish midfielder’s 10th league goal of a spectacular campaign.
Before Pisa could regroup, Napoli doubled their advantage just six minutes later. Eljif Elmas swung in a deep corner, allowing Amir Rrahmani to rise highest and power a downward header. While Pisa goalkeeper Adrian Semper got a hand to it, he could only help the ball over the line to make it 2-0.
Pisa had a rare sight of goal just before the break when Alessandro Buongiorno committed a loose error, but Napoli keeper Alex Meret reacted brilliantly, rushing off his line to deny Filip Stojilkovic with a vital reflex save. The second half was a showcase of absolute game management from Conte’s side.
The visitors calmly knocked the ball around, racking up over 700 accurate passes to completely starve the home side of opportunity. Kevin De Bruyne entered the fray after the hour mark to inject further quality, but it was another substitute who helped put the gloss on the scoreline deep into stoppage time.
Pasquale Mazzocchi drove down the right flank and fizzed a low cross into the box, allowing Hojlund to read the flight perfectly and guide home a clinical left-footed finish. The goal not only capped off a flawless afternoon for Napoli but also triggered the clause to make the Danish striker’s loan switch from Manchester United permanent for £38m. With Juventus slipping up elsewhere, Napoli comfortably celebrated their return to Europe’s elite tier.
