Serhou Guirassy inspired Borussia Dortmund to a 2-0 win over Hamburger SV, scoring one and setting up another as the hosts made the perfect start to their Bundesliga campaign.
Guirassy opened the scoring in the ninth minute, finishing off a Konstantinos Karetsas assist to give Dortmund an early lead they never looked like relinquishing. They held firm regardless, with goalkeeper Gregor Kobel producing three important saves to preserve the clean sheet as Hamburg pushed for a way back into the game without ever really testing the home defence.
Dortmund’s control was reflected across the statistics — 56% possession and 20 shots, six of them on target, against just eight attempts from Hamburg, only three on target. The hosts also dominated on the ball, completing 471 passes to Hamburg’s 340, with their early pressure and fluent build-up play ultimately proving the difference.
The win extends Dortmund’s strong record in this fixture, having now won 10 of the last 18 meetings between the two sides, with Hamburg winning five and three ending in draws. It’s a positive opening result for Dortmund as they look to push up the table this season, while Hamburg will look to regroup after a difficult start to the campaign.
