Hoffenheim 2-3 Dortmund: Guirassy sparks dramatic BVB comeback
Borussia Dortmund staged a thrilling second-half comeback to maintain their perfect start to the Bundesliga season, recovering from 2-0 down to beat Hoffenheim 3-2 at the SNP Arena.
Hoffenheim controlled the early stages and deservedly led just before the interval when Leon Avdullahu curled a superb effort beyond Gregor Kobel from distance. The hosts doubled their advantage nine minutes after the restart as Tim Lemperle shrugged off a challenge and saw his shot deflect in off Waldemar Anton.
Dortmund looked in serious trouble but responded with real character. Serhou Guirassy sparked the recovery on the hour, dispossessing an opponent before lofting a delicate finish over the advancing Oliver Baumann. Substitute Fabio Silva then levelled within five minutes, converting Guirassy’s assist with a low left-footed strike that bounced in off the post.
The visitors completed a remarkable turnaround four minutes from time when debutant Ethan Nwaneri’s low cross was turned into his own net by the unfortunate Albian Hajdari. Niko Kovac’s side held firm through five minutes of added time to secure a hard-fought victory that keeps them top of the table with three wins from three.
Hoffenheim will feel aggrieved after dominating for long periods, yet Dortmund’s clinical response and late fortune proved decisive on a dramatic afternoon in Sinsheim.
