Official: Chelsea Sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa, with the goalkeeper putting pen to paper on a deal until 2029.
Reports suggest the move for the 33-year-old cost the Blues £7.5m.
Martinez said he was thrilled with the move, describing it as an easy decision for him and his family. He added that winning is central to who he is, and that he sees Chelsea as a club built for silverware. The goalkeeper promised full commitment in training and matches, saying he wants to make the club, his team-mates and supporters proud.
Martinez came through the youth ranks at Independiente before joining Arsenal in August 2010 at the age of 17. After a string of loan spells to build experience, he broke into the first team during the 2019-20 season, starting the last 11 matches of the campaign and winning the FA Cup.
He added the Community Shield the following season before moving to Aston Villa in September 2020. Martinez went on to become one of the finest goalkeepers in the world during his six years at Villa Park, making 256 appearances and winning the Europa League in May.
He made his Argentina debut in June 2021 and has since become the country’s undisputed number one, earning 67 caps. Martinez has won two Copa America titles, in 2021 and 2024, and was part of the squad that lifted the World Cup in 2022.
His performances on the international stage saw him awarded the Yashin Trophy for the world’s best goalkeeper at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in both 2023 and 2024.
