Burnley Complete Signing of Anel Ahmedhodžić from Feyenoord

Burnley have completed the signing of centre-back Anel Ahmedhodžić from Feyenoord for an undisclosed fee, bringing the Bosnian international back to English football just a year after he left the Championship.

The two clubs had been finalising the details of the deal after Feyenoord accepted Burnley’s bid, with Feyenoord understood to have been holding out for a fee in the region of £6m this summer. The 27-year-old departs Rotterdam despite having a contract at De Kuip running until the middle of 2029, leaving the Eredivisie side after just a single season.

Ahmedhodžić arrived at Feyenoord last summer from Sheffield United and made an immediate impact, starting in the club’s Champions League qualifying tie against Fenerbahçe just a day after signing. He went on to become a regular fixture for the Rotterdam side, making 36 official appearances across all competitions during his time there. Reflecting on his spell in Holland, the defender called his time in Rotterdam short but special, thanking the club and its supporters for their support along the way.

The move sees Ahmedhodžić return to England having spent three years at Sheffield United, including two seasons in the Championship — the very division in which Burnley will now play following their relegation from the Premier League. Sheffield United and Southampton had also been credited with interest in the centre-back before Burnley moved to secure his signature.

His arrival adds fresh defensive depth to Burnley’s squad as they prepare for the new Championship campaign, with the club moving swiftly to get the deal over the line following their opening approach earlier in the week.
