Liverpool 2-0 Fulham: Salah and Ngumoha Secure Vital Anfield Victory

Liverpool eased the growing pressure on manager Arne Slot as teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha became the club’s youngest-ever Premier League goalscorer at Anfield to help secure a vital 2-0 victory over Fulham.
Following a bruising week that saw them dumped out of the FA Cup by Manchester City and beaten by Paris Saint-Germain in Europe, the Reds desperately needed a domestic response to shore up their Champions League aspirations.
While Fulham threatened a second-half resurgence, with substitute Emile Smith Rowe missing a gilt-edged chance, Liverpool held firm to move four points clear of sixth-placed Chelsea in the race for the top five.
Teenager takes center stage
The pre-match atmosphere at Anfield was tinged with apprehension. Liverpool’s form had stuttered, and Slot’s decision to hand Ngumoha a start on the left wing felt like a roll of the dice.It proved to be an inspired move. After a cagey opening half-hour where Fulham’s Harry Wilson had whistled a shot narrowly over, Ngumoha lit up the stadium. Picking the ball up wide, the youngster danced past two defenders with a flurry of step-overs before curling a precise, right-footed effort into the far corner.
At 17 years and 225 days, he eclipsed the record previously held by Raheem Sterling, marking himself as the brightest spark in a transitional season for the club.
Salah says goodbye in style
The momentum stayed with the hosts, and four minutes later, the lead was doubled. Ngumoha was involved again, lofting a cross that Cody Gakpo expertly controlled under pressure. Gakpo’s layoff found Salah, who didn’t hesitate, rifling a first-time shot past Bernd Leno into the bottom corner.
It was a poignant moment for the Egyptian, whose announced exit at the end of the campaign had cast a shadow over recent weeks. His celebration, a simple acknowledgement of the Kop, felt like a reminder of the clinical edge Liverpool will soon have to replace.
Fulham’s missed moments
Marco Silva reacted at the interval, introducing Smith Rowe and Sasa Lukic to inject life into a Fulham side that had been largely passive. The tactical shift nearly paid dividends. Ryan Sessegnon’s pinpoint cross found Smith Rowe unmarked six yards out, but the former Arsenal man somehow steered his effort wide of Giorgi Mamardashvili’s post. Raul Jimenez also saw a late chance go begging as the Cottagers’ profligacy ensured they left Mersey side empty-handed.
