Manchester United close to agreeing new long-term deal with Kobbie Mainoo

Manchester United are on the verge of securing the long-term future of England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
Talks between the club and the 20-year-old’s representatives are understood to be at an advanced stage, with growing optimism that an agreement will be reached shortly.
The proposed deal would tie the academy graduate to Old Trafford until June 2031 and include a significant salary increase, reflecting his status as a key pillar in the club’s future.
Securing Mainoo has been a top priority for United since the turn of the year. While the midfielder was already under contract until 2027—with the club holding an option for a further 12 months—United have been keen to reward his rapid ascent with terms that match his first-team importance.
The breakthrough comes after a period of uncertainty for the youngster. Earlier this season, Mainoo saw his playing time limited under former manager Ruben Amorim, a situation that reportedly left the player frustrated and considering his options amid interest from across Europe. However, since Michael Carrick took interim charge in January, Mainoo has started every Premier League fixture, establishing a settled partnership with Casemiro in the heart of the midfield.
Reward for progress
Mainoo has not signed a fresh contract since his breakout performance in the 2024 FA Cup final win over Manchester City. Since then, he has:
- Become a regular for the England national team.
- Earned a recall to Thomas Tuchel’s latest Three Lions squad.
- Established himself as one of the most composed young technical players in Europe.
United are also understood to be in advanced negotiations with Harry Maguire over a contract extension, though Mainoo’s renewal is seen as the cornerstone of the club’s long-term planning.
Official confirmation of the deal is expected before the end of the current campaign as United look to build momentum heading into the summer transfer window.
