Nottingham Forest sign Austria midfielder Xaver Schlager

Nottingham Forest have signed Austria midfielder Xaver Schlager on a two-year contract from RB Leipzig.
The 28-year-old becomes the first signing under new manager Oliver Glasner, who previously worked with Schlager at Wolfsburg, where the pair guided the German side into the Champions League.
Schlager served as Leipzig’s vice-captain during the 2025-26 season, making 30 appearances before starting all four of Austria’s matches at this summer’s World Cup to bring his tally to 55 international caps.
Having begun his career at Red Bull Salzburg, the midfielder went on to make nearly 200 appearances in Germany, including 15 in the Champions League.
”I am honoured to join Nottingham Forest, a historic club with a great legacy,” Schlager said.
”I was looking for a new challenge, and I am happy to work again with Oliver Glasner. The club’s ambition is high, as is mine, and I want to contribute to the team’s return to European competitions. I will give my all for the club and its fans.”
