PSG complete €55m signing of Ajax winger Mika Godts
Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Mika Godts from Ajax, with the Belgian winger putting pen to paper on a five-year deal in a transfer worth €55m.
The 21-year-old has signed a contract running until the summer of 2031. The deal caps off weeks of negotiation between the two clubs, with PSG’s initial offers falling well short of Ajax’s demands before the sides eventually settled on a package worth €55m, the bulk of which will be paid upfront. Ajax had been holding out for closer to €60m, while PSG’s opening proposal was worth €40m plus €5m in bonuses.
It represents a stunning piece of business for Ajax, who signed Godts from Belgian side KRC Genk for just €1m three years ago. In total, the winger made 115 senior appearances for the Amsterdam club, scoring 26 goals and providing 24 assists, with last season’s standout campaign seeing him crowned Eredivisie MVP after netting 17 goals and 13 assists.
Speaking after the move was confirmed, Godts said: “I am incredibly proud to join one of the best clubs in the world. I can’t wait to wear this jersey and feel the atmosphere of the home ground.”
In Paris, Godts will face stiff competition for a starting berth, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and new arrival Maghnes Akliouche all vying for attacking spots, while Bradley Barcola is expected to move in the opposite direction with Liverpool interested.
Ajax director Jordi Cruyff admitted the club had fought to keep hold of their prized asset. “Mika is an excellent player with very specific qualities, and we are going to miss him tremendously. We did not want to lose him and would have preferred to keep him here for at least another season,” Cruyff said. “However, when you perform at Ajax at such a high level, clubs of this calibre come knocking.”
For PSG, the deal continues an active summer in the transfer market as the European and reigning French champions look to further strengthen Luis Enrique’s attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
