Roma 2-1 Atalanta: Late Drama as Hosts Complete Stunning Comeback
Roma produced a stunning late turnaround to beat Atalanta 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico, scoring twice in stoppage time to snatch victory from what looked like a losing position in Serie A’s third round.
The first half finished goalless, with neither side able to find a breakthrough. Atalanta broke the deadlock three minutes into the second half through Ederson, and for long periods it looked like that strike would be enough to settle the contest in the visitors’ favour.
Roma kept pushing, though, and their persistence paid off deep into stoppage time. Defender Mario Hermoso levelled the score in the 90th minute, sparking scenes of relief and renewed belief around the Olimpico.
The comeback was far from finished. Just three minutes later, Matías Soulé struck the winner, sending the home crowd into raptures and completing a remarkable swing in fortunes. Roma’s fightback secured all three points and gave their fans a night to remember.
