Arsenal v Burnley Premier League Preview: Team News & Predictions

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side host relegated Burnley at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night, knowing that a victory can push them ever closer to that elusive crown. The Gunners currently sit two points ahead of FA Cup winners Manchester City at the top of the table. A win against the Clarets, coupled with a Manchester City loss or draw at Bournemouth on Tuesday, will officially crown Arsenal as Premier League champions.

The atmosphere around the Emirates promises to be electric. Arteta described the scenes before the Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid as creating a level of energy and connection the team had not experienced before. Expect something similar and perhaps even more emotionally charged on Monday night.
Recent Form
Fears of the dreaded bottle emerged when Arsenal won just one of six fixtures between 22 March and 19 April, but the hosts have since earned four victories from their last five, including each of their last three with zero goals conceded.
Arsenal supporters celebrated the VAR call at the London Stadium almost as loudly as they had cheered Leandro Trossard’s winner, as the Gunners passed what was always going to be the sternest test left in their Premier League schedule.
For Burnley, the picture is bleak but familiar. A 2-2 draw against Aston Villa at Turf Moor last time out extended their winless run to 10 matches, leaving them in 19th place with just 21 points from 36 games. Having scored 37 goals and conceded 72 across a difficult campaign, Scott Parker’s side are playing strictly for pride.
Team News
Arsenal
Arteta has named the same starting lineup for three matches in a row, but will be forced into at least one change against Burnley. Ben White is out with a serious knee injury and will not play again this season, meaning Cristhian Mosquera is likely to start at right-back.
Martin Odegaard was superb off the bench against West Ham, providing the assist for Leandro Trossard’s winner, and the Arsenal captain is pushing to return to the starting lineup. Jurrien Timber and Mikel Merino remain out injured but both are pushing hard to play again this season.
Riccardo Calafiori is also uncertain after coming off at half-time against West Ham, with Arteta explaining the club must “wait and see how he reacts” before making a decision.
Burnley
Burnley are still without Jordan Beyer and Josh Cullen, but defender Connor Roberts is close to a first-team return having missed the entire 2025/26 season. Midfielder Hannibal Mejbri was forced off in the 2-2 home draw with Aston Villa last time out and will be assessed ahead of kick-off
Predicted Line-Ups
Arsenal: Raya; Mosquera, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Rice, Lewis-Skelly; Saka, Odegaard, Trossard; Gyokeres
Burnley: Dubravka; Walker, Tuanzebe, Esteve, Pires; Ugochukwu, Florentino; Tchaouna, Hannibal, Anthony; Flemming
Key Battle to watch
Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres, who has 14 goals this season – the fifth highest in the league will lead the line, while the imperious centre-back pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães will look to shut out the visitors.
For Burnley, manager Scott Parker will lean heavily on his main attacking threats Zian Flemming and Jaidon Anthony, who have scored 10 and eight goals this season respectively. Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka will likely face a busy evening.
Set-pieces will remain important too. Arsenal’s win at Burnley earlier in the season was shaped by dead-ball threat, and Arteta’s side has repeatedly used those moments to break open tight league games. Against a side likely to spend long spells defending deep, restarts could again offer a key route through.
The Stats that’s matters
Arsenal have had 17 Premier League goals this season either scored or assisted by a substitute the most in the division.
Burnley have won just one of their last 27 Premier League games, while Arsenal have only lost their final home league game in one of the last 28 seasons and are unbeaten in 14 since a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in 2010-11.
The reverse fixture provides a useful reference point: Arsenal scored twice before half-time at Turf Moor and gave Burnley very little encouragement, with a controlled 2-0 win with Gyokeres and Rice both on target.
Predictions
This is a game Arsenal will be expected to dominate, but that does not make it straightforward. Burnley are already relegated, so have nothing to lose, which changes the emotional pressure on the visitors but can also make the match awkward.
This simply has to be a straightforward win for Arsenal, who will look to start fast and score a couple early to settle any nerves. Saka will lead the charge as the star who takes them ever closer to the title.
Prediction : Winner Arsenal
