Former Chelsea record goalscorer Bobby Tambling dies aged 84

Chelsea legend Bobby Tambling, the club’s second-highest goalscorer of all time, has died at the age of 84.
Tambling scored 202 goals in 370 appearances for the Blues, holding the club’s all-time scoring record for 45 years until it was broken by Frank Lampard in 2013.
The former forward made a goalscoring debut for Chelsea as a 17-year-old in 1959 and went on to captain the side.
He played a key role in their 1965 League Cup triumph, scoring in the final against Leicester City, and also featured in the 1967 FA Cup final defeat to Tottenham.
”Chelsea Football Club has very sadly lost one of our most legendary players,” the club said in a statement. “His name is written very large in our history.”
Tambling also won three caps for England, scoring once against France, before moving to Crystal Palace in 1970.
He finished his playing career in the Republic of Ireland, where he later settled and managed local sides Cork Celtic and Cork City.
