World’s tallest Lionel Messi statue unveiled in Argentina

A towering tribute to Lionel Messi has been unveiled in Argentina, officially claiming the title of the world’s tallest statue dedicated to the national team captain.

The monument, located in the southern city of Neuquén, stands at an imposing 26 metres tall—surpassing the previous record by five metres. That previous 21-metre record holder, erected in India in December 2025, was dismantled earlier this month.

Designed by local artist Aldo Beroiza, the new Argentine landmark was commissioned as part of a regional initiative to boost tourism.

The colossal 70-tonne structure features a steel frame reinforced with concrete. It depicts the Inter Miami and Argentina forward in his iconic Albiceleste kit, complete with the World Cup trophy positioned at his feet.
