Roberto Martinez sacked as Portugal head coach
The Portuguese Football Federation has terminated the contract of national team head coach Roberto Martinez and his coaching staff with immediate effect.
Martinez leaves his post today, Wednesday, officially bringing an end to his three-and-a-half-year spell in charge.
The FPF confirmed the departure in an official statement, expressing their gratitude for the contributions made by the Spanish coach and his backroom team during their tenure.
Under Martinez’s leadership, Portugal were crowned UEFA Nations League champions in 2025. The federation highlighted the commitment, professionalism, and dedication shown by the management team, as well as their constant respect for Portuguese football.
The search for a successor is already underway, with the FPF stating that its president has begun the hiring process for a new head coach. The federation aims to find a manager who will maintain a culture of ambition and a winning spirit across all competitions.
