Mark van Bommel agrees deal to become new Belgium manager
Former Netherlands international Mark van Bommel has agreed to become the new head coach of Belgium, succeeding Frenchman Rudi Garcia.
Agreement until 2028
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, the former midfielder has reached a complete agreement in principle with the Belgian Football Association on a contract running through to June 2028.
All major details have been settled, with only the formal signing of contracts and an official announcement from the federation remaining.
A new era for the Red Devils
Van Bommel’s impending arrival comes in the wake of Rudi Garcia’s exit following Belgium’s 2026 World Cup campaign.
The Belgian FA views the appointment as a key step in launching a fresh project as they begin preparations for upcoming international competitions, including qualifying for UEFA Euro 2028.
First test in international management
This role will mark Van Bommel’s first venture into national team coaching after a managerial career spent in club football across Europe.
