Germany 4-0 Finland: Deniz Undav shines as hosts cruise to victory in World Cup warm-up

Germany cruised to a dominant 4-0 victory over Finland at the Mewa Arena in Mainz, sending a definitive message of intent just days before departing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Julian Nagelsmann’s side turned in a clinical performance on home soil, dictated by a star turn from forward Deniz Undav, as they extended their impressive winning streak to eight matches.

The hosts dominated possession from the opening whistle but were initially frustrated by an organized Finnish defence and a couple of smart stops from goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 34th minute. Teenager Lennart Karl, whose meteoric rise has caught the eye this season, unlocked the space out wide, allowing Undav to ghost in at the far post and powerfully head Germany into a deserved lead.
Any hopes of a Finland comeback were firmly extinguished within minutes of the second-half restart. Undav turned provider in the 48th minute, executing a high press to intercept the ball deep in Finnish territory before unselfishly sliding a pass across the box for Florian Wirtz to convert a simple tap-in.
The rampant Germans refused to take their foot off the gas. After Karl unluckily struck the post moments earlier, the youngster turned architect again in the 57th minute, delivering a pinpoint, threaded pass into the path of Undav. The Stuttgart striker made no mistake, ruthlessly slotting home his second of the night into the bottom corner.
The rout was completed just six minutes later. Germany’s fluid midfield carved the visitors apart once more, finding Jamal Musiala in space on the edge of the area. The playmaker drove forward and rifled a powerful finish past the helpless Hradecky to make it four. Nagelsmann then utilised his bench heavily, maintaining defensive solidity to ensure a clean sheet for stand-in goalkeeper Oliver Baumann.
The convincing win provides the perfect platform for Die Mannschaft as they fly out to North America, where they face a final warm-up against co-hosts USA before kicking off their World Cup Group E campaign.
