Mohamed Salah inspired Egypt to a historic first-ever World Cup victory as the Pharaohs produced an emphatic second-half comeback to defeat New Zealand 3-1 at BC Place in Vancouver.

Nine minutes later, the Egyptian King took center stage. Ziko turned provider with a clever, intuitive back-heel inside the penalty area to Salah, who calmly stroked a clinical finish past Crocombe to claim his 68th international goal.
Substitute Trézéguet sealed the historic win eight minutes from time, ghosting in unmarked at the back post to glance a pinpoint corner from Salah into the top corner.
The landmark victory Egypt’s first at a World Cup finals in nine attempts spanning 92 years propelled them to the top of Group G with four points. A draw in their final group fixture against Iran will guarantee a spot in the Round of 32.
Meanwhile, New Zealand sit bottom of the standings with a solitary point and must now defeat Belgium in their final game to keep their qualification hopes alive.
