OFFICIAL: Anthony Gordon completes €80m Barcelona transfer

Barcelona have completed the sensational signing of England winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a deal worth a fixed €80m (£69m).
The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract keeping him at the Nou Camp until June 2031, with the package potentially rising to €90m through performance-related add-ons. Newcastle have also secured a sell-on clause as part of the agreement.
The deal represents Newcastle’s second-largest sale in history, following Alexander Isak’s £125m move to Liverpool last summer, and provides the St James’ Park club with significant financial breathing room. Everton are also set to benefit from the switch, holding a 15% sell-on clause on the profit of the £45m deal that took Gordon to Tyneside in 2023.
The La Liga giants moved swiftly to finalise negotiations on Wednesday night, fending off late competition from Bayern Munich to secure the forward. The deal has been fast-tracked so Gordon can finalize formalities before flying out to Florida on Monday to join up with Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for World Cup preparations.
Gordon’s move brings an end to a highly successful three-and-a-half-year spell at St James’ Park. Having joined from Everton in January 2023, he scored 39 goals in 152 appearances for the Magpies, helping them twice qualify for the Champions League and lift the EFL Cup in 2025 the club’s first major silverware in over 50 years. He was particularly impressive in Europe last season, netting 10 goals during Newcastle’s Champions League campaign.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted the transfer represents a “big opportunity” for the winger, while Barcelona have landed a primary summer target as they look to reshape their frontline following the departure of Robert Lewandowski. Gordon, who is set to double his wages to around £300,000 a week in Spain, will link up with Hansi Flick’s squad ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
