Pape Gueye quits Senegal duty over coaching staff after World Cup exit
Senegal international Pape Gueye has announced he will stop representing the national team for as long as the current coaching staff remains in charge.
The midfielder’s bombshell statement comes immediately after the Lions of Teranga were dumped out of the 2026 World Cup.
Senegal suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat after extra time against Belgium in the Round of 32, collapsing under a thrilling Belgian comeback that has clearly left deep fractures within the camp.
Hours after the final whistle, Gueye took to his official Instagram account to make his feelings clear.
”I will return later to discuss the elimination, but I announce today that as long as this coaching staff is present, I will cease to represent the national team,” Gueye said.
The sudden decision exposes major dissatisfaction behind the scenes and throws the immediate future of the Senegalese national team into uncertainty as they come to terms with an early exit from the tournament.
