World Cup 2026: Gil slams Mbappe behaviour after Paraguay exit

Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gil has hit out at Kylian Mbappe’s behaviour following his side’s dramatic World Cup exit on Saturday.
The French captain scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot to send Les Bleus into the quarter-finals at Paraguay’s expense, but it was his actions after the final whistle that left a bitter taste in the mouth for the South American shot-stopper.
Gil, who was the standout performer for Paraguay after making a string of world-class saves to deny Mbappe throughout the match, revealed he was pointedly snubbed by the Real Madrid superstar at full-time.
”Kylian Mbappe really angered me,” a frustrated Gil said in his post-match interview. “I reached out to shake his hand and congratulate him, but he ignored me. I am upset.”
While Mbappe was too preoccupied celebrating France’s progression to notice the goalkeeper, Gil’s heroic performance ultimately proved in vain as Paraguay bow out of the tournament.
France now march on to the last eight, where they will face Morocco for a place in the semi-finals.
