Deportivo La Coruña Sign José María Giménez on Loan From Atlético

Deportivo La Coruña have completed the signing of Uruguay defender José María Giménez on loan from Atlético Madrid until June 2027, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the loan spell.
Giménez, 31, is regarded as one of Uruguayan football’s standout defenders, having won 99 caps for his country and established himself as a key figure at the heart of their defence.
The centre-back has enjoyed a successful career in Spanish football, making 270 La Liga appearances, all with Atlético, scoring six goals and providing nine assists during that time.
In European competition, Giménez has made 69 Champions League appearances, scoring five goals and adding two assists, along with seven outings in the Europa League. He has also featured in 33 Copa del Rey matches, scoring three goals and setting up two more.
Over the course of his career, Giménez has won two La Liga titles, a Europa League, a Spanish Super Cup and a Uefa Super Cup, gaining extensive experience at the top level of European football.
He began his career at Danubio’s academy before moving to Atlético, where he spent the majority of his professional career and became one of the club’s most reliable defenders.
Deportivo’s move for Giménez adds a wealth of experience to their squad, with the defender boasting a proven record in Spanish domestic and European competition as well as at international level with Uruguay.
