Bazoumana Touré Completes €50m move to Newcastle United
Newcastle United have completed the signing of highly-rated Ivory Coast international winger Bazoumana Touré from Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim. The 20-year-old moves to St James’ Park for an undisclosed fee, understood to be worth €50m (£42.5m), and has penned a five-year contract keeping him on Tyneside until June 2031.
Touré becomes Eddie Howe’s second senior arrival of the summer transfer window, following the £24m capture of French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Reims earlier this month. The Magpies moved quickly to secure the coveted left winger, beating out stiff competition from Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal to formalise the deal just days after Touré’s World Cup campaign in North America came to an end.
The pacey attacker is viewed as a direct replacement for Anthony Gordon, who departed for Barcelona in a £69m deal earlier this summer. Touré enjoyed a standout breakout campaign in Germany last season, racking up 17 direct goal involvements comprising five goals and 12 assists to propel Hoffenheim to a fifth-place finish and secure UEFA Europa League qualification. His statistical profile from last term placed him in the upper echelons of Europe’s top leagues for progressive carries, successful dribbles, and key passes.
Speaking to the club’s official website upon his unveiling, Touré revealed the move fulfills a lifelong ambition. He noted that playing in the Premier League for a club of Newcastle’s stature had always been his dream, adding that the family atmosphere on Tyneside would provide the ideal environment for him to showcase his capabilities on the pitch.
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe expressed his delight at securing a player he considers a “hugely exciting young talent with a really high ceiling.” Howe emphasized that Touré has already proven his quality at the highest level in the Bundesliga and gained invaluable tournament experience with the Ivory Coast national team. The Magpies’ hierarchy believes the young winger offers a unique tactical dynamic that will help unlock further attacking potential in the squad.
Touré’s meteoric rise sees him join his third European league before turning 21, having previously moved from Ivorian powerhouse ASEC Mimosas to Hammarby IF in Sweden in early 2024, before making a rapid multi-million euro progression through Hoffenheim. Newcastle’s summer business is expected to continue seamlessly from here, with senior club officials turning their focus toward midfield recruits as Sandro Tonali edges closer to a Tottenham Hotspur switch.
