Divock Origi Retires from Professional Football

Former Liverpool and Belgium forward Divock Origi has officially called time on his professional football career at the age of 31.

​The striker last took to the pitch in April 2024 during a loan spell at Nottingham Forest from AC Milan. Over the course of his career, Origi also featured for Lille and Wolfsburg, but his most defining era came during an eight-year stint at Liverpool between 2014 and 2022. During his time at Anfield, he secured six major honours, including both the Premier League and the Champions League, which marked the conclusion of his silverware-winning achievements at the club level.

​Reflecting on his journey, Origi shared an emotional farewell message, stating that his goals as a footballer had been achieved and his childhood dreams of playing on the grandest stages and winning top trophies had been fulfilled. Expressing gratitude to God and his global fanbase, he noted that every iconic moment, goal, and historic event they created together would live on forever.

​He also extended his thanks to the clubs, coaches, and teammates who helped shape him as a person off the field. Origi expressed immense pride in representing Belgium while honoring his Kenyan heritage, and credited his family for their constant support throughout his career. Concluding his statement, he noted that his mission was accomplished as he looks forward to his next challenge, signing off with, “The journey continues… With love, Divock Origi.”
