Real Madrid 4-0 Malaga: Mbappe Stars in Record Win

Real Madrid claimed a commanding 4-0 victory over Malaga at the Bernabeu, with a standout performance from Kylian Mbappe helping the hosts to their biggest ever win against the Andalusian side.

Real Madrid made their intentions clear from the first minute, with Jose Mourinho’s side never allowing Malaga to settle into any kind of rhythm en route to a comprehensive win.

The first half was a one-sided affair. Jude Bellingham opened the scoring in the 19th minute, before an own goal from Alfonso Herrero doubled the lead seven minutes later. Mbappe, who finished the match with a rating of 8.9, added a third in the 30th minute after being teed up by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Madrid’s dominance was total. The hosts registered 19 shots, eight of them on target, while Malaga could only muster a single effort of note all game. Madrid’s clinical edge was clear too, converting four goals from an expected goals tally of just 2.34.

At the other end, a solid Thibaut Courtois kept a clean sheet with relative ease, Malaga managing only 0.72 in expected goals across the 90 minutes.

Mbappe’s influence stretched well beyond his goal. The Frenchman completed five successful dribbles and was a constant threat throughout, with his combinations alongside Bellingham and Vinicius Junior repeatedly picking apart the Malaga defence.

The 4-0 scoreline also represents the biggest winning margin in the sides’ ten meetings on record, eclipsing the previous best of a two-goal difference — a damaging result for a Malaga side already struggling near the foot of the table.

Malaga now find themselves in a precarious position, second from bottom with just a single point from three matches, and short on answers going forward.

Real Madrid, by contrast, sit top of the table with nine points from three games and a goal difference of +8, serving early notice of their title ambitions this season.
