Stephen Eustaquio scored a dramatic 92nd-minute winner as Canada broke South African hearts at SoFi Stadium to secure their first-ever World Cup knockout victory.
In a tense, high-stakes battle that seemed destined for extra time, the co-hosts finally unlocked a stubborn South African defense in the second minute of stoppage time. Seeking inspiration, Marsch turned to his bench and introduced superstar wing-back Alphonso Davies for his first appearance of the tournament following a hamstring injury. The Bayern Munich man immediately stretched the pitch and injects life into the Canadian frontline, carving open the South African backline to set up Promise David, who uncharacteristically fired wide from close range.
Just as the five minutes of added time threatened to prolong Canada’s frustration, Eustaquio’s moment of magic delivered the defining blow to seal a landmark triumph.
