Awoniyi Completes £17m Permanent Move to Coventry City
Taiwo Awoniyi has completed a permanent move to Coventry City, ending a four-year stay at Nottingham Forest that had been shadowed by injury setbacks and increasing competition for a starting spot.
The Nigeria international’s transfer, worth a fixed £17 million with no add-ons or bonuses attached , brings the curtain down on a saga that had rumbled on for several transfer windows without resolution. The deal was agreed on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with the striker completing his medical before putting pen to paper.
Frank Lampard has moved to add Premier League know-how to his newly promoted squad, and the 29-year-old fits the bill after scoring 23 goals in 103 games at the City Ground since his move from Union Berlin in 2022. Game time had become harder to come by at Forest, though, with Chris Wood and Igor Jesus preferred in the pecking order.
Awoniyi’s desire to stay in the Premier League played a key role in his decision to choose Coventry over rival suitors, while the short distance between the two clubs offered added convenience.
