James Ward-Prowse Set to Rejoin Southampton from West Ham
Southampton are closing in on a return for James Ward-Prowse, with the midfielder poised to rejoin the club he progressed through as a youngster after two years away at West Ham United.
Sky Sports Germany report that the fee under discussion is a modest one, with the deal valued in the region of €4.5m including add-ons, considerably below the roughly £30m West Ham paid to sign him back in 2023. Southampton are understood to be hopeful of finalising an agreement before the transfer window shuts, with Ward-Prowse expected to sign a contract running until 2028 should the move go through.
The 31-year-old spent 20 years at Southampton after joining the club’s academy as an eight-year-old, going on to make more than 400 appearances, captain the side and become renowned as one of the finest dead-ball specialists of his generation before his switch to West Ham. Since leaving St Mary’s he has had loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Burnley, but has struggled to hold down a regular place at the London Stadium.
A return to Hampshire would bring Ward-Prowse back to the club where he made his name, with Southampton keen to add his experience and set-piece quality as they push higher up the table.
