Manchester City Extends Abdulkadir Khusanov’s Contract
Manchester City defender Abdukodir Khusanov has signed a new five-year contract extension, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031.
The 22-year-old joined the club in January 2025 and established himself as a key figure during the second half of last season, forming a strong central defensive partnership alongside Marc Guéhi.
Khusanov featured in 16 of City’s final 19 Premier League fixtures and helped the team secure both the FA Cup and EFL Cup. His impressive performances also earned him a nomination on the final shortlist for Manchester City’s Player of the Season award for 2025-26.
”It’s a great day for me and my family, and I am very happy to extend my stay with Manchester City,” Khusanov said.
”I have enjoyed every minute since I arrived in Manchester, and I feel that I am developing and learning a lot as a player. My goal now is to prove myself to coach Enzo Maresca and his staff, and to secure a starting position in the team.
”I thank the City fans for their tremendous support, and I look forward to doing everything I can to help the club achieve more success.”
City sporting director Hugo Viana praised the progression of the young defender, tipping him to develop into a world-class center-back.
”We are extremely happy with his progress since arriving in England,” said Viana. “He possesses all the physical and technical attributes to become one of the best defenders in the world, and he still has a lot to offer.
”That’s why we are pleased to extend his contract, and we hope he will be an important part of Enzo Maresca’s plans in the coming years.”
Khusanov made history as the first Uzbek player to compete in the Premier League, quickly earning recognition across the top flight for his pace and tackling strength.
He also played a pivotal role in guiding Uzbekistan to qualify for the World Cup finals for the first time in their history, continuing a rapid rise that has established him as one of the most promising young talents at Manchester City.
