Trippier considers shock Wolves exit after Edwards sacked

Kieran Trippier is considering terminating his contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers following the sacking of head coach Rob Edwards, according to Sky Sports.

The 35-year-old defender is understood to be frustrated and angry after Edwards was abruptly dismissed this week, just days after the full-back was unveiled as the club’s marquee summer signing.

Trippier chose a move to Molineux over several other options, cutting short his holiday to undergo a medical and finalise terms. Edwards’ presence at the club was reportedly the key factor in convincing the veteran defender to join.

However, Trippier only learned of Edwards’ sacking via an outside source on Thursday morning, while Edwards himself was reportedly informed of his dismissal by a family member rather than the club. The news first surfaced on social media late on Wednesday evening.

The former England international is due to officially join Wolves on July 1 when his contract with Newcastle United expires, but he is now assessing his options regarding an immediate exit.

Edwards had been actively leading the club’s summer recruitment, pushing hard to secure deals for both Trippier and striker Raul Jimenez before his sudden departure.

Portuguese manager Cesar Peixoto, currently in charge of Gil Vicente, is expected to replace Edwards at Molineux.

Trippier spent the last four seasons at Newcastle, following previous spells at Atletico Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley.
