Sunderland Sign Belgium Winger Malick Fofana From Lyon
Sunderland have completed the signing of Belgian winger Malick Fofana from Olympique Lyon on a long-term deal, making him the club’s fifth summer signing.
The 21-year-old is known for his pace, dribbling ability and direct attacking style, and can operate either on the left wing or through the middle, Sunderland said on their official website.
Fofana joined KAA Gent’s academy at the age of nine and progressed through the club’s youth ranks before making his professional debut in the Belgian Pro League Super Cup in 2022, going on to make more than 60 first-team appearances.
He moved to Lyon in January 2024 and quickly established himself as a key player for the French club, making 82 appearances and contributing 18 goals and six assists.
At international level, Fofana has represented Belgium at various youth levels from under-15 to under-21, before earning his first senior call-up in October 2024 and making his debut against Italy in the Nations League.
